Doctor, Heal Thyself: Rare Disease Research

Dr. David Fajgenbaum has almost died five times from Castleman disease, a group of rare and deadly diseases of the lymph nodes. After his diagnosis had upended his plans for a more conventional medical career, “Think It, Do It” became his motto, and he decided to dedicate his professional life to not only working towards a cure for Castleman as a physician-scientist, but also founding and managing the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network (CDCN) – a research collective to disrupt the broken, disorganized approach to disease research. David pursued and earned an MBA in the process to better tackle the complex, often contradictory web of medical and pharmaceutical research, regulation, and care.
